To join Community Car, complete the online membership application form. A non-refundable $50 application fee will be charged to your credit card.

To be eligible you must have:

• At least 5 years driving experience (3 years for UW students)*

• No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years
• No major violations in the past 3 years
• At-fault accidents will be considered individually
• Special eligibility requirements apply for UW students with less than a 5 year driving record. See below for details.

When we receive your application we will call or email you within 1-3 working days to finalize your membership.

*must be at least 21 to have a 5 year driving history and 19 to have a 3 year driving history

Individual Application

Fill out an Individual Application if you are applying for a personal individual membership plan.

Joint Applications

If you are signing up with one or two other people as a "family" membership, one person in the account should fill out a regular Application ($50 Application Fee) and the additional driver(s) should fill out a Joint Application ($25 Application Fee for each additional driver). When filling out a Joint Applicatoin, be sure to include the name of the person(s) you're signing up with in the REFERRED BY field of the application.

Business & Non-Profit Applications

Business and Non-profit organizations must fill out an Organization Application ($25 Applicaton Fee) to create a group account . Each employee/volunteer who wishes to be a driver on the account must fill out a Driver Application form ($25 Application Fee for each driver).

UW faculty, staff and students who have at least a 5 year driving record* can join for only $25 and receive a $45 FREE driving credit through a sponsorship with UW Transportation Services. The driving credit is good for 30 days upon joining.

We can now offer membership to UW students with less than a 5 year driving record.

 

To be eligible you must have:

 

• At least a 3-year driving history*
• A completely spotless driving record
• At least a 3.0 GPA as an enrolled student at UW-Madison

 

*must be at least 19 years old; 3 years starts when full license is issued

 

Six Community Cars are available to these drivers: Biotech (lot 20), Welcome Center (lot 29), Helen C. White (lot 6), Johnson & Charter (lot 56), and (2 vehicles) W. Johnson & Frances (lot 46).

 

These UW members are eligible for the $45 free driving credit, but because of extra insurance costs associated with this group, they will be charged for the standard $50 application fee.

• Only pay $7/hr AS YOU DRIVE!

 

You receive your Community Car invoice from University Apartments each month - it's simply added onto your housing fees.
